“The Hangout Hive is more like a family. We all see each other as “Equal” & all of us help one another. Having a group like “Us” really does mean a lot. Not only does it help us make friends, but it also helps us with communication skills, and we are learning how to deal with many different situations as a GROUP.”
The Hangout Hive is a group of people with different disabilities that do fun activities.
During the Summer and Early Fall, we do two activities on a Sunday. We may choose to hike, golf, or visit art galleries. During the Fall and Winter, we only do one activity during the evening on Sundays. For instance, we go to restaurants each week, brand new!
Once a month (3rd Wednesday of each month) , we have a meeting with a mentor where we discuss how the events are going, for example, we address any transportation issues or meal payment.
Some of our members have support staff that join both events & monthly meetings. We call the support staff, “Honorary Members” (they do not have a disability, but are there to support their client & help the group at times)
People with all kinds of disabilities created The Hangout Hive (HOH). If we start accepting people who do not have a disability like “Us”, the Hangout Hive won’t be the same. We have all agreed on that.
